A brief letter to the Editor against assuming women's interests should be affected by actions of one woman, published in The Australian on 5 March 1991, p.10

If Senator Janet Powell 'has set back the cause of women in politics and public life by a century', Mr McColl (In brief, The Australian, 28 February 1991, p.12), then Saddam Hussein must have set back the cause of men in those same fields by several millennia! Senator Powell is not representative of women -- no woman is -- merely of herself and (possibly) those naive souls who voted for her.
